POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The person filling this consultant role will serve as an English Language Instructor as well as a part-time Project Coordinator. The position holder will be part of a two-year Women in Technology capacity-building program in Basrah, where young women will receive training and certification in technology, English language, and employability skills, as well as participate in other program activities. The position holder will provide English language instruction to three groups of learners and coordinate the logistics and administration of the overall program. The candidate must be based in Basrah or willing to relocate to Basrah. Please note that Amideast will not be able to cover relocation expenses.

 

OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of this independent contractor effort are as follows:

1. Provide quality English Language instruction to program participants.
2. Maintain consistent and professional communication with Amideast, and program participants
3. Provide on-ground logistical support, including venue arrangements, payment processing, and transportation arrangements

 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR:

The instructor will provide English language instruction to three groups of learners, each group will receive a total of 120 hours of classroom instruction. The instructor will also be paid for a total of 26 non-instructional hours for planning and grading purposes.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:                                     

Tasks and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide quality English Language instruction for all assigned courses
• Prepare relevant lesson plans and course logs in advance of the scheduled lessons taught based on curriculum goals and content
• Provide any requested materials, reports, plans, and notes within the specified timeframe
• Plan any supplemental materials needed to enhance courses
• Follow the designated instructional plan and schedule for the course
• Provide feedback to supervisors when necessary
• Communicate with students about advanced notice of upcoming projects, assignments, graduations, surveys and changes to schedules as required by the ELTS
• Maintain students’ attendance records
• Submit a report on class progress during the program when necessary
• Participate in program strategy and planning sessions
• Correct homework, exams, quizzes, progress reports, and all assignments in a timely fashion
• Conduct student conferences when necessary
• Assist in EL program planning and curriculum development
• Attend teacher orientation, initial training, and teacher meetings as required
• Participate in teacher professional development sessions, based on prior notice and agreement with supervisor
• Plan and teach online courses, when needed, through Amideast’s distance learning platform.
• Provide confirmation of program updates, course instructions, and other written communication in a timely manner to the ELTS

PART-TIME PROJECT COORDINATOR:

The project coordinator’s responsibilities are estimated to take up to 56 hours per month, totaling 672 hours of administrative work in a year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:                                     

Tasks and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide on-ground logistical support, including venue arrangements, payment processing, and transportation arrangements
• Identify key stakeholders in the market, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration, and handling various administrative tasks to ensure the successful execution of the project
• Maintain consistent and professional communication and follow up with Amideast, and program participants
• Serve as the focal point for Amideast Iraq in Basrah

   QUALIFICATIONS:

• A bachelor’s degree in English language
• 2-3 years of teaching experience
• Knowledge of principles and practices of Communicative Language Teaching
• Advanced level of proficiency in English and Arabic
• Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills
• Excellent spoken and written communication/public relations skills
• Ability to independently manage multiple complex tasks and priorities with frequent interruption
• Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
• Strong support for Amideast’s mission

   

  PREFERRED CRITERIA:

• A master’s degree in applied linguistics, TESOL, or second language acquisition is preferred
• Previous experience in independently managing complex donor-funded training and/or education projects in international organizational settings
• A strong network with youth hubs and syndicates across Federal Iraq, particularly Basrah
