The Program Manager for Education Abroad has strong technical skills and a keen appreciation for critical processes and procedures necessary for the implementation of high quality, holistic education abroad programming. The Program Manager seeks the integration of new and updated technological solutions to best support those processes and procedures, enhancing the experience of colleagues, partners, program participants, and other stakeholders. They report to the Director of Education Abroad and are involved in all aspects of Amideast’s Education Abroad programs as outlined below. The incumbent supports the professional development and supervision of interns, program assistant(s), program officer(s), and serves as acting director in the absence of the director. Specific areas of responsibility and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Terra Dotta Super-User

  • Serves as the front-end site builder, designing and implementing Terra Dotta (TD) program portals and processes, and workflow for their update and management
  • Implements TD updates on rollouts
  • Has proficiency with the Analytics tool and familiarity with Reviewer workflow processes
  • Directs and supervises Program Assistant work in TD, as needed
  • Advises and trains HQ and FO Education Abroad staff in use of TD, as needed
  • Serves as Amideast’s point of contact for TD
  • Attends the annual TD conference and training
  • Acts as primary point of contact for Amideast IT regarding TD
  • As needed, assists program partners in updating and maintaining application elements in their portals
  • Designs new TD applications for customized clients based on program needs and contractual responsibilities
  • Maintains Amideast presence in non-TD systems (e.g., viaTRM brochures)

Development and Management of Customized and Faculty-Led Programs

  • Serves as primary point of contact for clients and Field Offices regarding customized and faculty-led programming
    • Oversees itinerary, budget, and contract development
    • Manages program implementation by coordinating among field offices, HQ, and clients
  • Contributes knowledgeably to discussions critical to program development for interdisciplinary and discipline-specific programs, including outcomes, assessment, themes, cost, staffing, robust participant support, etc.

Program Promotion

  • Collaborates closely with colleagues on development, update, and implementation of promotional strategies and activities, including social media, the blog site, website, and general web presence
  • Travels extensively to represent Amideast Education Abroad at conferences, study abroad fairs, campus visits, and other in-person and virtual promotional opportunities

Health, Safety, Security and Risk Management

  • Manages the procurement of and contract with Amideast’s education abroad insurance provider and supervising student insurance registrations
  • Supervises program incident reporting processes and practices for Field Offices and HQ
  • Supervises Duty of Care for program
  • Collaborates in the maintenance and update of Amideast Education Abroad’s Policies and Guidelines Manual
  • Collaborates in the maintenance and update of the Amideast Participant Agreement and Release, Financial Policy, and other contractual and policy-related documents
  • Provides support, as necessary, in management of emergency situations involving study abroad students
  • Participates in regular rotation of a 24/7 emergency line
  • Supervises maintenance of data protection and retention policies for the Education Abroad team

General Program Management and Monitoring

  • Collaborates with clients, partners, and Field Office staff from program development through implementation, monitoring, and reporting for education abroad programs
  • Collaborates in updating and developing policies and procedures, and identifying best-practices for Amideast Education Abroad Programs based on the Standards of Good Practice of The Forum on Education Abroad
  • Collaborates in assessment/MEAL (monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning) initiatives for Amideast Education Abroad Programs
  • Assists in training colleagues at HQ and in the Field Offices in the implementation of technologies, policies, procedures, and best practices for program delivery
  • Supervises the student application and admissions process for Amideast Education Abroad Programs
  • Supervises creation and submission of final student grade reports

General Support

  • Serves as Amideast Education Abroad’s representative in one or more professional organizations (e.g., The Forum on Education Abroad, CCID, NAFSA, OSAC AWG, the Provider Collective, etc.)
  • Serves as Education Abroad’s representative for internal Amideast initiatives in one or more areas of expertise (e.g., technical use of various systems, disability accessibility, health/safety/security, STEAM, data retention and protection, etc.)
  • Develops and monitors department-wide organizational tools
  • Collaborates in supervising the work of Interns, Program Assistant(s), and Program Officer(s)
  • Serves as Acting Director in the absence of the Director



  • Advanced use of Terra Dotta; cover letter must detail experience of implementing TD as described above (applicants should include any accessible links demonstrating their work)
  • Exceptional customer service orientation and appreciation for diversity and positionality of Amideast Education Abroad stakeholders (e.g., colleagues, institutional clients, participants, vendors, faculty, host communities, etc.)
  • Master’s degree in relevant field; professional education abroad experience in the areas described above demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and management may substitute for degree and/or degree specialization
  • Academic study, employment, or substantive travel or living outside the U.S. in either the Middle East and North Africa or another Global South or “non-traditional” education abroad context; demonstrated knowledge of and respect for the positionality of the Global South in education abroad and a commitment to intercultural humility may substitute
  • Budget development and personnel management experience. Other relevant experience, especially in financial management and monitoring, may substitute for one or more areas of responsibility as outlined above (with the exception of that of the TD SuperUser)
  • Experience and commitment to supporting traditionally excluded participants and institutional clients in the relevant areas of responsibility described above
  • Knowledge of compliance with FERPA, Title IX, VAWA, HIPAA, the ADA, Section 508, the Privacy Act, and GDPR as relate to education abroad
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent research skills
  • Comfort with standard Office 365 software, experience maintaining websites, experience with a range of task-based platforms (LunaFairs, Handshake, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure
  • Effective multitasking and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility and ability to shift priorities to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and accept responsibility as a member of a small team


  • Communications experience, especially social media marketing and promotion; applicants are encouraged to share any links that demonstrate their work in this regard
  • Experience working with and/or managing faculty-led education abroad programs
  • Video editing and/or graphic design experience welcome; please share any links to portfolios or creative products in this regard
  • Spoken/written Arabic and/or French language proficiency; knowledge and/or experience of and appreciation for “critical,” diglossic, or indigenous languages and/or European languages outside of Global North contexts may substitute
  • Professional writing experience
  • Experience with one or more commonly used learning management systems (LMS)

The incumbent in this position will work in a professional office environment and will utilize the following equipment when working from the corporate office or remote home office (on a hybrid basis).

Approximately 30% business travel (domestic and overseas) may be needed to support programmatic goals as needed.
