POSITION DESCRIPTION

The EducationUSA Adviser (hereafter referred to as “Adviser”) is part of the EducationUSA Tunisia office composed of two Advisers responsible for providing EducationUSA (hereafter referred to as “EdUSA”) services and promoting higher education and study opportunities in the United States to audiences in Tunisia. Each Adviser is primarily responsible for conducting outreach and advising in a specific geographic region within the country. This Adviser position will be based at Amideast Sousse and work closely with American Corner Sousse. The Adviser reports directly to Amideast/Tunisia’s Director of Programs and coordinates with representatives at the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia. 

The Adviser is responsible for providing information to the public about U.S. higher education at accredited undergraduate, graduate, or other institutions in the United States. The adviser offers free, unbiased advice to the public on the admissions process, financial aid, intercultural issues, logistics, and other topics as required and appropriate. The two-member advising team will manage the day-to-day recruitment and activities of the Competitive College Club and the local EdUSA Ambassadors and Opportunity Funds programs. The position requires excellent interpersonal and presentation skills in English, French, and Arabic, as well as strong administrative follow-up. The Adviser must be able to commit to domestic travel and work throughout Tunisia, including after hours and on weekends, as well as international training and travel

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Tasks and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conduct frequent outreach to the southern and interior regions of Tunisia to provide advising and counseling, and promote EdUSA services and study in the United States
  • Work with public and private academic institutions and organizations to deliver presentations to high school, undergraduate, masters, and post-graduate students about study in the United States and distribute information about scholarship opportunities and U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs
  • Maintain close contact with the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia on the administration of all programs and outreach
  • Advise individuals seeking guidance and information on studying in the United States
  • Manage an advising calendar and help maintain EdUSA Tunisia’s social media presence
  • Conduct group orientation sessions at Amideast and at other locations for the public, and individual consultations
  • Respond to inquiries from e-mail and walk-ins regarding the American educational system, application procedures to U.S. colleges and universities, and other EdUSA services
  • Coordinate speakers, produce materials, update presentation information, and promote the annual pre-departure orientations that are held for students preparing to travel to the United States
  • Compile monthly reports and statistics
  • Develop and implement annual advising and outreach plans, in coordination with the US Embassy, including developing and monitoring program budgets
  • Coordinate with U.S. university representatives and local schools to help representatives recruit students from Tunisia and assist them in the set-up of appointments at local high schools and universities
  • Assist in managing the Competitive College Club “CCC,” reaching out to Tunisian high schools and undergraduate students, in person and/or virtually
  • Assist in managing the local EdUSA Opportunity Funds program, including identifying, selecting, and coaching eligible and promising scholars for participation in the program and other scholarship opportunities and advise them as they apply to U.S. institutions
  • Manage various U.S. government grants including the tracking of funds and quarterly reporting
  • Cooperate with Amideast’s Exchange Program Manager, the American Corner Sousse Coordinator, and various Embassy teams to plan information sessions
  • Develop, plan, execute, and contribute to events for the annual International Education Week
  • Represent the EdUSA network and Amideast/Tunisia as needed at conferences and workshops
  • Represent the EdUSA network in local fairs, school and university visits
  • Develop, organize, and support the implementation of EdUSA fairs in Tunisia                                                               

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as education, humanities, human resources, business administration, or other
  • At least one year of experience in the U.S. academic environment or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved
  • Prior U.S. higher education experience and knowledge of U.S. higher education system is preferred
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with individuals from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Willingness and availability to travel (up to 30% travel required) domestically and internationally
  • Willingness to work after hours and weekends
  • Fluency in English, Arabic, and French
  • Excellent record keeping and report writing in English
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, Arabic, and French
  • Knowledge of the Tunisian education and higher education systems
  • Competency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and digital media engagement tools

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent in this position will work in a professional office environment and will utilize the following equipment when working from the corporate office or remote home office (either on a temporary, or hybrid basis).

  • Server and other IT equipment

Up to 30% business travel may be needed to support Amideast/Tunisia as needed.
